The Body Shop Shea Body Butter review

I don't normally use body butters and I don't normally splurge on body care as I find my skin quite undemanding, but when I found in my Glossybox a buy-one-get-one-free coupon for The Body Shop butters I took advantage of the promotion and two body butters arrived under my roof.

I'm currently using the Shea Body Butter, the other one is awaiting its turn.
The butter comes in the typical TBS jar with screw-on top, which I find quite inconvenient in days of time pressure, however, while I'm on holiday and in no hurry I don't mind the fuss of  unscrewing the lid and digging for product in the jar.

The Shea Body Butter is meant for very dry skin, that's why, I suppose, the consistency of the product is very thick and it doesn't melt upon touch with the skin. It's quite hard to apply, but sinks in pretty fast and doesn't make my skin feel greasy. It moisturises my skin really well, I use it not only as my body butter but also as a hand and foot cream.

The product has the most peculiar smell. I have no idea what pure shea butter smells like, every single shea-based product I've ever used had a different fragrance. To me TBS Shea Body butter has a kind of unisex smell, which brings to my mind my Jo Malone cologne. I don't sense this that much in the pan, but it becomes so prominent on my body that it once made me wonder whether my Jo Malone lasted through the bath. It's not something I don't like, I just associate The Body Shop with somewhat different fragrances.

Will I repurchase? Probably not. With the product being so thick in consistency I tend to use a lot, which makes it disappear pretty quickly. I generally prefer lotions sold in bottles with a pump. And the price tag is way too high for my liking.

Disclaimer: I bought the product myself for my personal use and I am not affiliated with any company. I am not paid to do this review and everything I said here is my genuine opinion.

  1. I am surprised you used it up so quickly, my body butters tend to last for ages. Try the Chocomania scent , its to die for! xx

    1. Me too, perhaps it's because it's so thick. All Body Butters by TBS I used before lasted for ever. Chocomania sounds tempting!!
