Korean goodies: Skinfood Watery Berry Blending Cream review

Skinfood Watery Berry Blending Cream
This review was requested long, long time ago. I ordered the cream immediately after but during the X-mas period it took over a month to ship. I've been playing with it for about two weeks now so I suppose I'm ready to review the product.

Since the beginning of 2012 I've swapped my skin care products for the Korean ones almost entirely. I've bought and sampled a large number of products, many of which surprised me greatly. However, I haven't seen anything like the Skinfood Watery Berry Blending Cream so far.

The cream comes in a pretty glass jar with a wintery picture of leafless shrubs and red berries. The surprise awaits you upon opening the jar. Inside there's thick white cream sunk in watery gel. What am I supposed to do with it?, is the first thing that came to my mind. Fortunately the sticker on the bottom of the jar contains instructions on how to use the product. It says : After serum/emulsion application, disperse the clear gel and cream care in a 2:1 ratio on the back of your hand. Mix well and apply to skin. Adjust the blending ratio of the gel and cream care depending on your skin type and condition.
Although I really appreciate the possibility of adjusting a cream to individual needs of the skin I find the whole process complicated and tedious. First of all it's not that easy to find the right ratio. Too little of this, too much of that, I don't think I ever got the 2:1 ratio. Secondly, when trying to get the right proportions I tend to mix too much of the cream. Thirdly, it's time consuming.

Skinfood Watery Berry Blending Cream
The cream promises to give soft, glowing skin due to the content of berry extracts and sodium hyaluronate and the hydrating function of the gel and the nourishing one of the cream.
And I must say that qualitywise this cream, like the entire line, is excellent. It's a perfect moisturiser for all skin types. I prefer to use it as a night cream but it doesn't make my oily skin too glowy. It absorbs quickly leaving the skin, well, ... just looking good. I seem also to have no breakouts since I've started using the cream. I don't know if I can attribute it to the cream or some sort of hormonal stability, I suppose it's the cream.
The cream has a pleasant fresh smell, like all the products within the line.

Will I repurchase? I don't think so. I don't like all the fuss about the application. I suppose this cream will be enjoyed by young, independent girls or childless housewifes who can spend hours on their skin care. Toners, serums, emulsions and then measuring the right proportions of blending creams... Not for a working mum of two. Pity, cause it's an excellent product.

I've got one sample of the cream, so if anyone would like to try it out, just let me know in the comments below and I'll contact you for more details. First come first served.

Disclaimer: I bought the product myself for my personal use and I am not affiliated with any company. I am not paid to do this review and everything I said here is my genuine opinion.

  2. Oh, and do you think that the whole thing is a 2:! ratio and that we could just mix the entire jar at once? It is pretty time-consuming otherwise.

    1. This is exactly what I've been thinking of but the trouble is that the white substance is very hard and it wouldn't blend that easily, a simple swirl with a spatula won't do for sure. I suspect some simple electric device like the thing you use to produce froth for cappucinos could be quite handy.

  3. Ick, that sounds troublesome. Still, I might give it a try. I'll be sending you an e-mail for the sample asap; thanks!

  4. I've never heard of such a product! Very interesting, but as you said, not for a working mom of two (and I'm also a working mom of two). I want to add to my skincare routine with some Korean products but I'm not sure what to add exactly. I have a daytime moisturizer I like, that's it. Other skincare product spots are up for grabs!

    Anything you can suggest?

    1. They make excellent moisturisers, especially for dry skin. But if I were to try out something new and completely different I'd go for Korean masks (they call them packs). I absolutely adore my mud or clay mask by Innisfree, Skinfood Royal Honey exfoliating mask is also very good.

    1. Hi, I have really no idea what's happened to this product. It was a bit fussy to use but the cream itself was all right. I haven't heard anything about this being withdrawn from the market.
What I also noticed is that a number of products traded on e-bay cannot be found on official websites. I don't know how to explain this.
